Anaïs Maviel's solo performance practice has been a sanctuary to navigate spaces between composition and improvisation languages from a bodily & spiritual approach. Exploring the relation between voice and other instruments, drum first with a focus on the surdo, various percussion instruments, sacred instruments, and strings, especially the n'goni with which she explores non western tuning, rhythmic harmonic possibilities in experimental /experiential song formats.

hOULe
From a shapeshifting ocean's swell ("houle" in French) emerges a stark improvised thought in seven parts, aesthetically exploring depths and their formless origins. A fearless expression of a voice and body, without words; a stormy inquiry into flowing sounds and cycles of freedom; subtle metamorphoses and budding hybrid forms. Anaïs Maviel - solo voice & percussion, out on GOLD BOLUS RECORDINGS Can be purshased on Bandcamp, at Downtown Music Gallery (NY), Souffle Continu (Paris) or at shows. |
