BE
vocal quartet ft. Livia nestrovski, Lenna Bahule & Maria Luana
"Brazilian indigenous people, more precisely the Tupinambá and the Tupy-Guarani, descend from ancestors called Tubuguaçu by the ancients. They held a certain wisdom of the soul, that is, of ayvu, the body-sound of Being. From this wisdom conjoint to a science of the sacred, they developed techniques - in fact, they intuited techniques - to tune the physical body with the mind and spirit.
The Tubuguaçu understand spirit as music; a holy voice (nê-en-porã) expressed by the body - which is itself a flute (U'mbau) - a vessel through which song flows and manifests the Avá - the being-light-sound-music - whose home is in the heart."

“Be” is a twenty minute multi-lingual vocal piece drawing connections between cosmologies of sound across traditions. It came as a response to the Amazonian rain forest being threatened by disconnected human policies. As the language slowly emerges from vibration, we become familiar with divine feminine wisdom. We observe the interactions between human and geological times and how they impact our experience of the environment. Altering Greek theater’s chorus, the vocal ensemble comments on a multi-layered narrative of the encounter of so called nature and culture. "Be" excavates words from their meaning to find pivots in language, and ideological transformation in repetition, through the lens of a feminine, embodied experience. The cyclical story-telling highlights contemporary dilemmas regarding the ways we relate to the earth and to each other, and holds space for the expansion of collective awareness.
